TOYOTA MOTORSPORTS:
Preseason Thunder, Daytona Internatinal Speedway
January 7, 2008
Session 1, Day 1 AM

AJ ALLMENDINGER, No. 84 Red Bull Toyota Camry, Red Bull Racing Team

What is the best holiday gift you received? "So far, it looks like a competitive car at Daytona. We weren't bad this morning. Our guys did a lot of work to get the bodies right in the off-season and Toyota has stepped up their game. It's a combination of everything. We're only three hours in to a long process, but last year at this time, I don't think we were ahead of anyone after the first session. We've definitely had a better start and that gives us something to build on."

How does the new car handle on Daytona's bumpy surface? "The car moves around a bit, but we're working on getting it calmed down. It's hard for me to judge compared to last year, because it was my first time here and it was bumpier than anything I've ever felt. It moves around, but it's not out of control. I can tell that when it gets hot, it will be a handling race track like always. When it's cold, you can go two- and three-wide, but when it's hot, you'll have to be single-file."

Has the team set out its goals for the 2008 season? "Obviously, the first goal is to get in the top-35 in points. If we can get in the top-35, we'll re-adjust our goals, but the first goal is the most important. Getting in the top-35 is huge for us, and that's what we're shooting for."

How was your first test session in the Toyota Camry? "The first session was good for us. We're pretty happy with how things went. We were playing with some things during the first session, but so far, I'm real impressed with the Toyota engine and the car here at Daytona."

How important is it to have a good handling car at Daytona? "We're playing with a lot of different packages with the new car. We just changed where the car was real low like at Talladega, but the car really moves around a bit. Daytona is always exciting, and it's more of a mile-and-a-half race track in that tires are a big issue and getting the car to handle is very important here. I think we can do some things to find some speed, but we definitely want to get a good handling car."

Did you receive any good holiday gifts? "I got some good stuff for sure, but I didn't spend much time by myself. The holidays were all about Faith, my two- and-a-half year old daughter. She cleaned up, so that was a lot of fun."
