Preseason Thunder

Kasey Kahne (No. 9 Budweiser Dodge Charger)

"Today went good. The car ran well and everything felt good. We're just trying to learn things. We're trying little things here and there. Throughout the whole day we made a ton of runs and made some gains.

"It's hard to win the Daytona 500. Last year we had a top 10 and that was decent. I feel like we're getting prepared. These cars drive a lot different so you have to figure them out. You can only mess with so many things, compared to the other car where you could adjust on them a lot more. You can't do quite as much as you could [with the old car], aero wise."

ON THE UPCOMING SHOOTOUT "I'm looking forward to racing, driving the Bud car and definitely being in the Shootout. It's a big deal to be in that first race. I'm looking forward to it all and I'm looking forward to getting started. It has been a short off season and I'm ready to be back in the car."

DARIO FRANCHITTI (No. 40 Chip Ganassi Dodge Charger)

"The first day out was good. The car feels very good and it's driving well. With the single car runs there is not too much that we can do. When we start drafting that is when I'm going to start learning more. That is what I'm looking forward to and at the same time I'm kinda nervous about at the same time. That's when the learning really starts."

HOW DO YOU SEE THIS YEAR GOING FOR YOU AND YOUR FELLOW OPEN WHEELERS? "I don't know. At this point, I'm only worried about how the year is going to go for me. I'm sure those other guys are going to take care of themselves. It is going to be interesting. It's going to be hard and a very difficult challenge."

I think we did some good testing in Cup. We struggled a little bit in the Nationwide car and had some problems but we learned a lot. I felt very comfortable in the Sprint Cup car."

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO DRIVE A CUP CAR COMPARED TO A NATIONWIDE CAR? "A lot more horsepower. The car rolls a lot more and maybe not quite as much downforce but I like it. For me it is more fun to drive especially on the short tracks with all that horsepower it feels good.
