DAYTONA 500 PRE-RACE NOTES

BRETT BODINE (No. 11 Lowe's Ford) -- That's a heck of a way to get started! The story here is what this team has done this week. The fact that we lost a car last Friday -- and it's back here ready to go so we can practice tomorrow -- that's the story. I'm very relieved we're in this race (Daytona 500). The amount of work this team has done in one week is phenomenal. The work isn't done, but they're a tough group. When we burned up that car on Friday, (wife) Diane and I sat down and decided we had to fix it, in case this happens on Thursday (pointing to his wrecked car from the Gatorade 125-Mile Qualifying Race). That's exactly what just happened to us. We're going to just keep digging. We're in the Daytona 500, our first race, and we'll just go from there. (Bodine originally indicated the car burned in Friday's practice incident was the faster car. Does he still think it's faster?) We're planning on running it in the last practice on Friday, and then practice on Saturday. What we learned in setup on this car today we'll apply it over to that car, and hopefully we'll have something decent on Sunday. The guys at the shop really did a great job fixing the car, and I'm real comfortable with what we've got.

HUT STRICKLIN (No. 8 Circuit City Ford) -- His reaction to learning he was awarded a provisional for the 42nd starting position for the Daytona 500.) Relieved! That's the only way I can see it. We've been dreading this 125-miler -- we've been struggling all week. Now to finally get in and know we're going to be in the Daytona 500 sure takes a lot of pressure off the whole team. Now we've got to go back and find out what we've got to do to make this car run up front for the 500. Sunday in the Busch Clash we didn't have the same problem that we had today. Today we had an overheating problem. The grill got clogged. We've got to figure out what to do to keep the engine running cool.
