Jessica Simpson named Grand Marshal for 44th Annual Pepsi 400 at Daytona.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- (July 2, 2002) -- Award-winning Columbia Records recording artist Jessica Simpson will serve as grand marshal for the 44th annual Pepsi 400 on July 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Daytona International Speedway.

Simpson will give the command to start engines to the field of 43 drivers in front of more than 200,000 race fans at the Speedway and millions of fans around the world watching the mid-summer classic on FOX Sports. She'll sing "America the Beautiful" as part of Saturday's pre-race ceremonies.

"We're happy to welcome one of America's fastest rising musical stars," Speedway President John Graham said. "We'll get a double dose of Jessica Simpson's beautiful voice as she performs during the Pepsi 400 pre-race ceremonies and gives the command as grand marshal."

Simpson's album "Sweet Kisses" and "Irresistible" went multi-platinum worldwide and produced such hits as "Irresistible," "A Little Bit" and "There You Were."

She has also graced the covers of several major magazines including Teen People, Teen Vogue, Seventeen and Maxim and has performed at the White House, Rockefeller Center, NBA All-Star Game, NFL Pro Bowl and the World Series. She will also be featured this month in MovieLine Magazine.

Simpson, a native of Richardson, Texas who turns 22 on July 10, completed a USO tour overseas in Bosnia last November and Afghanistan over Christmas.
