JARRETT, WALLACE, IRVAN LEAD FORD TEAMS TO DAYTONA TEST
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 2) -- No fewer than nine Ford Motor Company NASCAR Winston Cup stock car teams -- including those of two-time and defending Daytona 500 winner Dale Jarrett, 1991 Daytona 500 winner Ernie Irvan and 1989 NASCAR Winston Cup champion Rusty Wallace -- are among those expected for the test. The Ford session is the first of seven separate test periods that will take up the balance of the month of January at the "World Center of Racing" as teams prepare for the events of Speedweeks 1997, which begins with practice and qualifying for the Rolex 24 At Daytona on January 30 and culminates with the Daytona 500 -- "The World's Greatest Race" -- on February 16. A section of the Oldfield Grandstand is open daily at no charge from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with access through the DAYTONA USA lobby. Guided Speedway Tours are also available subject to the weather.
