ELLIOTT POSTS 17TH-PLACE RESULT IN DAYTONA QUALIFYING RACE

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 16, 2005) -- Bill Elliott drove his No. 36 Ginn Clubs & Resorts Chevrolet to a 17th-place finish in Thursday's 150-mile qualifying race at Daytona International Speedway.

According to NASCAR's formula, Elliott's finish will give him a 33rd-place starting spot for Sunday's Daytona 500.

"The car was a little tight," said Elliott. "We just need to make a few tweaks and I feel we'll be in good shape for the 500. The key is that we came away from this race with an unscathed car."

Elliott, who has logged more than 25,000 miles on the famed 2.5-mile tri-oval, will make his 26th Daytona 500 start Sunday, and his first since 2003. He has won the event twice in 1985 and 1987.

"We have two objectives for the 500 -- the first is to have a good solid run," offered Elliott. "And the second is to put the Ginn Clubs & Resorts car in position to win the race during the closing laps."

Sunday's season-opening Daytona 500 will be broadcast live on NBC beginning with a pre-race show at 1:30 p.m. ET.
