BILL ELLIOTT (No. 9 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T) Elliott, 45, will run a brand new Intrepid chassis in the Budweiser Shootout. The chassis for his Daytona 500 Intrepid ran in last year’s Pepsi 400 and the Talladega Winston 500. We were pretty good in the draft this morning with the Shootout car, especially with a brand new car and a new motor,” car owner Ray Evernham said. “It’s the first time we had a chance to draft, and we learned a lot out there in this morning’s practice. “We’ve made a few minor changes to get the Daytona 500 Dodge ready for qualifying. I don’t think anyone really knows what to expect, but we’ll find out soon enough.”
CASEY ATWOOD (No.19 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T) Atwood, 20, will try to qualify for his first Daytona 500 with a brand new chassis. The Nashville, Tenn., native ran three NASCAR Winston Cup races last season for car owner Ray Evernham and scored a 10th-place finish at Homestead.
JASON LEFFLER (No. 01 Cingular Wireless Dodge Intrepid R/T) A 25-year-old rookie from Indianapolis, Ind., Leffler will drive a brand new Dodge chassis in the Daytona 500. A three-time USAC Midget Champion and USAC Silver Crown Champion, Leffler won three poles and finished 20th in NASCAR Busch Series points last year driving for Joe Gibbs Racing. Leffler is part of Chip Ganassi’s two-car Dodge outfit this season.
STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid R/T) Marlin, a two-time Daytona 500 winner, will drive the same chassis that he ran here in last year’s Pepsi 400. The 43-year-old driver from Columbia, Tenn., will make career start No. 504 in the 43rd annual Daytona 500.
BUCKSHOT JONES (No. 44 Georgia Pacific Dodge Intrepid R/T) Jones, a 30-year-old driver from Tucker, Ga., will drive a brand new chassis in the Daytona 500. Jones has 17 career NASCAR Winston Cup starts to his credit.
JOHN ANDRETTI (No. 43 Cheerios Dodge Intrepid R/T) Andretti, 37, from Indianapolis, Ind., will drive a brand new Dodge chassis out of the Petty Enterprises stables in the Daytona 500. Andretti will enter the Great American Race with 227 career starts, four poles and two victories.
KYLE PETTY (No. 45 Sprint Dodge Intrepid R/T) Petty’s Dodge chassis is brand new. The CEO of Petty Enterprises won the pole for the 1993 Daytona 500 and finished fifth that season in the series standings. Petty, 40, has 585 NASCAR Winston Cup starts with eight victories and eight poles.
STACY COMPTON (No. 92 Kodiak Dodge Intrepid R/T) Compton will drive a brand new Dodge Melling Racing chassis in the Daytona 500. A 33-year-old native of Gritt, Va., Compton has 32 NASCAR Winston Cup starts to this credit. He drove a Dodge Ram in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 1999, finishing fourth in the standings and winning the Bud Pole Award with six poles that season.
WARD BURTON (No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid R/T) Burton will drive a brand new Dodge chassis out of the Bill Davis Racing stables at Daytona. Burton, 39, lives in South Boston, Va. He finished 10th in the 2000 NASCAR Winston Cup standings and has two career victories in 214 career starts.
DAVE BLANEY (No. 93 Amoco Ultimate Dodge Intrepid R/T) Blaney will also drive a brand new Dodge chassis for car owner Bill Davis at Daytona. Blaney, 36, is from Hartford, Ohio. He has 39 NASCAR Winston Cup starts and scored top-10 finishes in two of the last three races last season.
