DAYTONA 500 BUSCH POLE/BUSCH CLASH NOTE

IN THE 19-YEAR history of the Busch Clash, 1997 marks the first time that neither front row qualifier for the Daytona 500 will be competing in the Busch Clash. In the 18 previous runnings of the Busch Clash, both front row qualifiers raced in the clash on eight occasions. Joining Mike Skinner as Daytona 500 Busch Pole Award winners who did not compete in the same year's Busch Clash were Dale Jarrett, 1995; Loy Allen, 1994; Davey Allison, 1991; and Benny Parsons, 1982. Steve Grissom joins Ernie Irvan (1996); Jarrett (1993); Dale Earnhardt (1990); Davey Allison (1987); Geoff Bodine (1983); and Donnie Allison (1979); as Daytona 500 second-fastest qualifiers who did not compete in the Busch Clash in the same year. Both front row qualifiers also competed in the Busch Clash in: 1992 (Sterling Marlin and Bill Elliott); 1989 (Ken Schrader and Darrell Waltrip); 1988, Schrader and Davey Allison; 1986 (Elliott and Bodine); 1985 (Elliott and Cale Yarborough); 1984 (Yarborough and Terry Labonte); 1981 (Bobby Allison and Waltrip); and 1980 (Buddy Baker and Donnie Allison).

BUSCH COLOR: Daytona 500 Busch Pole Award winner Mike Skinner will be a color commentator on the CBS Sports telecast of the Busch Clash, joined by three-time Daytona 500 Busch Pole Award winner Bill Elliott and former Busch Clash winner Darrell Waltrip.
