TRG Motorsports Runs 46th in Qualifying at Daytona Wallace to start 22nd in the second Gatorade 150

Daytona Beach, Florida (February 8, 2009) - TRG Motorsports' Mike Wallace ran a qualifying time that has him and the No. 71 TRG Motorsports Chevrolet Impala SS in 46th out of 56 going into the Gatorade Duel 150s on Thursday as they attempt to qualify for the 51st running of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Daytona 500.

Under near perfect sunny and 73-degree weather, Wallace turned a lap of 48.689 seconds and 184 mph which left him 46th on the first day of qualifying. The team will line-up in 22nd for the second Gatorade 150 on Thursday in their second attempt to make the Daytona 500 to be run Sunday, February 15.

"It is pretty simple in qualifying here as a driver, you come in you go through the gear box, hit your marks, which is fairly simple at this big track, and hold it to the floor and the car runs the speed or it don't run the speed," Wallace said. "We knew there was a chance that we would have to race our way in through the 150s on Thursday."

Wallace knows what it will take to have the right car for the Gatorade 150.

"The draft is the great equalizer. We will now work totally on our 150 race setup. We will get the car to drive really good in the draft. The car was a little fidgety in qualifying mode, I kind of bounced through the bumps. We will get that out of it. Just make it drive good. The strategy is to be one of the cars in the two available spots. We just need to get in. We will need to get upfront and run upfront and have good pit stops. You need to know who you are racing with as well as you know the cars you need to beat to get in."

TRG Motorsports team principal, Kevin Buckler, isn't afraid of it coming down to having to race their way into the show.

"It would have been nice to get in today, but we are totally prepared to race our way in on Thursday. Mike and the team are doing a great job. We will work on the car in the draft in the remaining practices and be ready to go on Thursday. We didn't get this far by not working hard. We are all in and are going for it."
