Joe Nemechek with Furniture Row Racing posted an impressive time of 48.418 seconds at a speed of 185.881 mph setting the #78 as the sixth fastest during the second practice. Joe Nemechek said, "We had a good practice in qualifying trim. I feel we have a good shot at being one of the top 3 cars out of the 'go or go home' cars." Joe Garone was quoted as saying, "In the off season we focused on qualifying for the 500 on time and in the event we don't make it on time we're running the #87 to help increase our chances of getting into the race through the qualifying races. After Saturday's practice we feel we have a good chance of qualifying for the 500 based on our speed."
Kenny Wallace posted a time of 49.035 seconds at a speed of 183.542 mph putting the #87 as the forty sixth fastest car during the second practice. Although he was forty sixth on the board Kenny still feels confident in saying, "My primary goal of coming to Daytona was to help get Joe into the 500 and once that is completed we can have a solid run in the 500. Joe being the third fastest star car makes us feel like we helped accomplish that goal! My car isn't fast enough to make it in on speed but it handles good and it will race really well on Thursday. I feel confident we can achieve our goals."
Joe Garone sees the plan working in the favor of Furniture Row racing. "We brought Kenny a brand new car and after spending the majority of the practice sessions working on the handling of the car we feel it will race very well. This is the best our cars have practiced in the sessions leading into qualifying at Daytona."
