"Edwards' 50th start comes at the Daytona 500"

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (February 15, 2006) -- What a dream come true for Carl Edwards, who will make his 50th Nextel Cup start this Sunday at the 48th running of the Daytona 500. Edwards, who started racing in NASCAR just three years ago, has catapulted himself as one of Nextel Cup's rising stars. In 2005, Edwards and his team finished third in the Nextel Cup Chase with four wins including a sweep of Atlanta.

"I'm really excited about getting my 50th start," said Edwards. "I read that the other day, and I can't believe that I will have driven 50 Nextel Cup races; I didn't ever think I'd get to drive one. It's just awesome and it means the world to me. I am really glad to be a part of the sport at this level. Hopefully, there is another zero after that start number before I quit."

In just 49 Nextel Cup starts, 23 percent of those starts have garnered top five finishes and 47 percent have resulted in top-10 finishes. These are quite impressive numbers for a driver entering just his second full season in the Nextel Cup series.

Edwards and his No. 99 Office Depot team will be back on the superspeedway of Daytona for Thursday's Gatorade 150's, then again for Sunday's Daytona 500.
