ELLIOTT AVOIDS WRECKS, FINISHES 19TH IN DAYTONA 500

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 19, 2006) -- Bill Elliott, driving in his first Daytona 500 since 2003, finished 19th Sunday in NASCAR's Super Bowl race at Daytona International Speedway.

Driving the No. 36 Ginn Clubs & Resorts Chevrolet for MB2 Motorsports, Elliott managed to avoid the numerous wrecks during the 200-lap race, but was unable to get to the front due to a tight-handling racecar.

"This was our first race together and everyone did a great job," offered Elliott, a two-time Daytona 500 winner. "We were hoping for a better finish, but we had a tight car and just couldn't free it up. It was tough out there today. A lot of crazy things happen on this track and I was happy that we didn't wreck any equipment."

Elliott started the 500-mile event from the 33rd position and was never able to mount a charge. But by using his savvy driving skills and staying clear of late-race accidents, he managed to gain in track position to finish 19th in his 26th career Daytona 500.

"We knew we had a handling issue, but we stayed patient," said Elliott. "The guys kept on making adjustments and we were able to come away with a decent finish and our racecar in one piece. I had a great time with the MB2 team and all of the folks at Ginn Clubs & Resorts."
