Burton Looks To Darlington To Continue Winning Ways
"I have always liked that track from the very first time that was there,
even as a fan. The way those guys like David Pearson and Bobby Allison got
around there, it was just amazing. I have some really great memories of
Darlington with my Dad and now as a competitor too."
-Ward Burton, driver of the Caterpillar Racing Dodge
Carolina Dodge Dealers 400
BURTON ON DARLINGTON...
"I always look forward to going to Darlington. It certainly helps that I have had some success here (Burton has two wins in the last three races), but even before that I enjoyed coming to Darlington with my Dad. Tommy and the entire Caterpillar team has done an excellent job at giving me a very good car every time we go to Darlington. I think that we have had a car capable of contending for the win the past three years we've been there. The secret is that you need to have a good car, but you also have to be smart about your race too. You have to be patient and not try and push the car further than it is capable of going. If you take care of your equipment until the end and are in a position to contend for the win, then you have a shot at winning at Darlington."
TOMMY BALDWIN ON STEVE PARK'S RETURN...
"Steve has had some unfortunate luck each time he has been hurt. Both times, the accidents that have hurt him haven't been his fault. Yet, he has taken it all in stride and had a great attitude about getting better. I think this is just one more hurdle in his career. Everything he has ever set his mind on doing, he has done and done well. He has tackled this with a lot more valor than he has ever gone after anything before. He is in better shape, probably the best health he has ever been in. I believe he is definitely ready to get back in the car, otherwise he wouldn't be doing it."
Ward Burton and the Caterpillar Racing team will race the same chassis they competed with at Rockingham last month. It finished 13th, but was capable of contending for the lead. Hut Stricklin will take over the wheel of the chassis that Burton won the Southern 500 with last fall. The Bill Davis Racing teams hope they can have a successful weekend, since both drivers like Darlington Raceway.
