Denny Hamlin Perseveres at Darlington, Finishes 13th in No. 11 Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota

Darlington, SC -- Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 11 Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Joe Gibbs Racing, finished 13th tonight in a physical, searing hot Southern 500 from Darlington Raceway.

The action started early for Denny, as the No. 11 Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota made slight contact with a spinning car, which forced the team to make an early pit stop to check the fenders.

Still, Denny continued to battle his way back through the field, only to be spun out on lap 162 by the No. 6 -- forcing the team to make an extended stop to repair what damage occurred. Moreover, Denny dealt with an ill-handling Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota throughout the night, something that the team believed may have occurred during the first incident.

From that point on the Farm Bureau Insurance team fought an uphill battle to get back on the lead lap and to the front. However, the team's determination paid off because the No. 11 Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota eventually landed the free pass back on the lead lap and ultimately finished a content 13th.

"It was just an up-and-down night. We had something break in the front of the car and just couldn't recover. I don't know what it was. It was just a struggle trying to get it right," said Denny Hamlin after the Southern 500.
