Darius Rucker To Perform Pre-Race Concert, National Anthem For Pepsi 400

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla ¯ (June, 19, 2002) Darius Rucker of "Hootie and the Blowfish" will perform a pre-race concert and sing the national anthem for the 44th annual Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway on July 6.

Rucker, a native of Charleston, S.C., will perform a 45-minute pre-race concert on the frontstretch and sing the national anthem in front of more than 200,000 race fans at the Speedway and millions of fans around the world watching the mid-summer classic on FOX Sports.

"Darius Rucker has one of the most recognizable voices in popular music today and we're sure our guests for the Pepsi 400 will be revved up by this spectacular pre-race concert," Speedway President John Graham said. Darius' abundant vocal talent in singing the national anthem will resonate in the hearts of our guests at the Speedway as well as the national television audience. We're fortunate to have a musician of his quality."

As the lead singer of "Hootie and the Blowfish," Rucker has sold more than 20 million records in the United States. The group has been awarded two Grammy Awards for best pop song and best new artist and has also garnered two American Music Awards.

Rucker, who will be releasing his first solo album "Back To Then" on July 30, will kick off his pre-race concert at approximately 5:30 p.m. while the green flag for the Pepsi 400 will wave at 7:30 p.m.
