"The D.J." will go on
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., (Oct. 26, 1998) Despite medical problems for Dale Jarrett, the inaugural Dale Jarrett Celebrity Golf Classic will be held as scheduled at Myrtlewood Golf Club Oct. 27-28.
After departing from the Dura-Lube/Kmart 500 early on Sunday with abdominal pain, Dale Jarrett was taken to a local hospital in Phoenix. At this time, doctors suspect possible gall bladder problems and are performing various tests on Jarrett before choosing a course of action.
Officials from NASCAR Cafe and NASCAR SpeedPark, tournament sponsors, announced this morning that the tournament will be held.
"Obviously all of our concerns are with Dale Jarrett," said Emmett Byrd, Vice President and Executive Director of NASCAR SpeedPark, "but in talking with a representative from his office, we feel that he would want the tournament to go on. We have a strong field of celebrities and we feel that this will be a great tournament. All of Dale's family and friends are rallying around him and we feel that this is our best course of action."
Proceeds from the inaugural Dale Jarrett Celebrity Classic will benefit Motor Racing Outreach and Waccamaw Youth Center. Fans are invited to attend a "Fan Party" Tues., Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. at NASCAR SpeedPark. Tickets for this event can be purchased at NASCAR SpeedPark or NASCAR Cafe Myrtle Beach.
