"Coke Racing Family" souvenir bottles coming
ATLANTA (July 12, 1998) NASCAR fans may work up a powerful thirst in pursuit what could be one of the sport's newest, hottest and most refreshing collectible items -- a series of nine commemorative eight-ounce Coca-Cola classic bottles featuring members of the "Coca-Cola Racing Family."
Coca-Cola Racing Family drivers Dale Earnhardt, Dale Jarrett, Bobby Labonte, Bill Elliott, Jeff Burton, Kyle Petty, Todd Bodine and Ricky Rudd will each be featured on their own bottle. In addition, a special bottle will commemorate Coca-Cola's designation as the "Official Soft Drink of NASCAR" in 1998.
Each bottle will come in a colorful six-pack carrier featuring Coca-Cola Racing Family graphics and driver images. Six-packs of the limited-edition bottles will begin appearing at different times in different parts of the country. Coca-Cola bottlers will begin distribution as early as this summer in some markets, with national distribution to be in full swing by the culmination of the NASCAR Winston Cup season in the fall.
"We expect this will be one of the most popular limited edition bottle series we've ever issued," said Andrew Angle, senior vice president, Coca-Cola USA and general manager, Coca-Cola USA Operations. "NASCAR fans around the country should race to their local store now, because Earnhardt, Jarrett, Labonte and the rest of the Coca-Cola Racing Family are going to be flying off of the shelves."
Commemorative Coca-Cola bottles have been refreshing consumers for more than 40 years. From significant events like the Olympics and the NFL Super Bowl championship sports teams and holiday traditions like the famous Sundblom Santa, Coca-Cola commemorative bottles may be valued by Coca-Cola fans and collectors alike.
Coca-Cola classic signed on to become the "Official Soft Drink" of NASCAR beginning Jan. 1, 1998. The comprehensive, five-year agreement is part of The Coca-Cola Company's long-established strategy to join with sports and entertainment properties that are meaningful to the people who drink its products. Central to this approach is activation through marketing programs that build its business by bringing fans closer to their favorite sports and their favorite soft drinks.
Through its associations with tracks and racing teams, The Coca-Cola Company and its bottling partners have been involved in NASCAR for more than 30 years. The Company is title sponsor of the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR Winston Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway and the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division Coca-Cola 300 race at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas.
