MARLIN FINISHES 26TH AT CHICAGOLAND
JOLIET, Ill. (July 9, 2006)-- Sterling Marlin finished 26th in Sunday's USG Sheetrock 400 here at Chicagoland Speedway.
"The Waste Management Chevy was temperamental all day," said Marlin, who started the NEXTEL Cup event 31st. "We started off pretty loose and then got real tight. We did some gambling for track position and tried a two-tire pit stop at one point, but that just made us even tighter. Unfortunately, we got a lap down and were never able to bounce back."
The Waste Management team, led by crew chief Scott Eggleston, worked hard on pit road to make appropriate changes to the No. 14 machine.
"Finally, at the very end of the race we figured some things out and started clicking off some of our best times of the day," offered Marlin. "But by that point we were too far behind and it was too late. We got close to getting back on the lead lap a couple of different times, but never got the break we needed. One more caution and we could've had a much better finish."
Marlin was scored as the first driver one lap down when he took the checkered flag.
"Another tough day for us for sure," said Eggleston. "But I'm proud of how much effort everyone is putting into this Waste Management team every single week. We're going to get there. We're learning new things each and every week. New Hampshire is up next-- hopefully we can go there and make some stuff happen."
Next Sunday's (July 16) Lenox Industrial Tools 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway marks the beginning of the second half of the 36-race NEXTEL Cup schedule. The event will be televised live on TNT beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET.
