* This Week's Race Car at Chicagoland Speedway is Chassis No. 103 ... The No. 31 Cingular Wireless Chevrolet that will be raced at Chicagoland this weekend has been entered in three other NASCAR Cup events earlier this year, including California Speedway where Gordon finished 12th after running out of gas on the last lap. The car also was run at Lowe's Motor Speedway in May (finished 20th) and Michigan in June (finished 33rd). The same car had a very busy season in 2003, running in eight different racing events with seven out of the eight concluding inside the top 25 and twice inside the top 10, but this will be the car's first visit to Chicagoland.
* More than one chance to meet Robby in Chicago ... While in the Chicago area, Gordon is scheduled to sign autographs Noon to 2 p.m., Thurs., July 8, for Team Kraft at the Jewel grocery store located at 1401 W. Jefferson in Joliet, Ill. He also will be signing autographs at the Harrah's Casino in Joliet, Ill., from 7 to 9 p.m. that same evening. If you don't catch him Thursday, he also will be signing autographs at the Cingular Wireless store located at 1015 Essington Road in Joliet, Ill., from 6 to 8 p.m. Sat., July 10.
* Listen and watch ... The Tropicana 400 NASCAR Cup race will broadcast live starting at 3:30 p.m. EDT, Sunday, July 11, on NBC, MRN and XM Radio. Qualifying for the Tropicana 400 will broadcast live starting at 4:10 p.m. EDT Friday, July 9, on SPEED, MRN and XM Radio
Team Cingular Quotes:
R. Gordon on racing at Chicagoland Speedway:
"Chicagoland is a young track near an old and very fun city. RCR always seems to run well there. I believe two out of the three times I have raced there I have finished inside the top-10 and Kevin [Harvick] won the inaugural race there in 2001.
"We're taking a good car that I think we last ran at Michigan this past June. That is definitely one race I would like to go do over again, but we can't do that so hopefully I will be able to make up for some lost time with the same car this weekend.
"Chicago is a very fast track, so I am glad to hear the SAFER walls were installed there. Not that I plan on checking them out personally, but I am glad to see tracks like Chicagoland stepping up to improve the safety of the sport."
Chris Andrews, Team Cingular Crew Chief, on racing at Chicagoland Speedway:
"We are taking a good car with us to Chicago that just hasn't had the best opportunity to prove what it is capable of the last few times we have run it this year. It is the same car that helped us get a season-best, fifth-place qualifying effort at Michigan in June. It also is the same car we raced at California Speedway in April and ran inside the top-10 all day before running out of gas on the last lap finishing 12th. It has been our favorite car this year and one of our favorites last year, so hopefully we'll get one of our favorite runs of the season out of it.
"The car had a great test at Michigan in April. There are differences between Chicagoland and tracks like Michigan, California and Charlotte, but at the same time they are all big, fast and flat race tracks."
