Riggs Finishes 25th in Coca-Cola 600

CONCORD, N.C. (May 30, 2004) - Scott Riggs produced a 25th-place finish in Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Riggs and the Valvoline team struggled early in NASCAR's longest race of the season -- 400 laps, 600 miles.

"The Valvoline Chevrolet was really free at the beginning of the race and we lost a lot of track position, and eventually a lot of laps," explained Riggs, who started the event 28th. "We kept working to tighten the car and eventually got it to where we wanted it. But it was too little too late."

After several trips down pit lane and numerous adjustments to the Valvoline machine, the team found itself producing lap times equivalent with the leaders late in the race.

"We were pretty good at the end of the 600 miles," Riggs said. "But we were already three or four laps down. It was just too late to do anything and I hate that for this team. We have to figure out how to be that fast at the beginning of the race so we can bring home the results we deserve."

The NEXTEL Cup Series will head to Dover (Del.) International Speedway Sunday (June 6) for the MBNA America 400. The race will be broadcast on FX.
