Riggs Looks To Rebound in Charlotte
CONCORD, N.C. (May 25, 2004) - Scott Riggs is hoping that his first Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway won't resemble his first All-Star weekend at the 1.5-mile oval.
In Saturday night's NASCAR NEXTEL Open, Riggs' Valvoline Chevrolet was collected in a multi-car accident just after the green flag waved to start the 20-lap race.
"It's a shame we didn't get to show what we had in the Open last weekend," said Riggs. "The team put a lot of time and effort in getting the Valvoline Chevrolet where we wanted it, and I think we had a pretty good racecar."
Now, Riggs hopes the highly-anticipated Coca-Cola 600 (May 30) will be his chance to earn a solid finish at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
"We're just looking to rebound from last weekend and get back to racing," continued Riggs. "Lowe's is one of the best tracks on the circuit. Luckily, I have another chance this weekend to see what my Valvoline machine is made of."
RIGGS' PRE COCA-COLA 600 QUOTES
On rebounding from the All-Star weekend:
"Last weekend was disappointing for the entire team, but the wreck was something that we couldn't avoid. It was still hard to swallow, especially for the guys who had worked so hard on the Valvoline Chevrolet. It wasn't a points race, so that's one positive. We'll just put it behind us and look ahead to the upcoming weekend."
On Lowe's Motor Speedway:
"Lowe's is a great place to race. Not only is it like a home track to most of the drivers, it's a great atmosphere and provides exciting racing. Lowe's is one of the racetracks that every driver looks forward to simply because of tradition and because of the atmosphere that surrounds the entire weekend."
On his hope for a good qualifying run:
"Qualifying is important every weekend. I've always had solid starts there (Lowe's Motor Speedway), and they've usually led to pretty good finishes. I'm eager to get there and am confident that we can produce a strong finish."
