KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 MM's Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing @Starting Position: 2nd
How was your qualifying lap?
"(Turns) one and two were really good. We drove through there really nice. I didn't want to screw up the lap getting down into (turns) three and four, so when we arced it in earlier today, we couldn't get it turned all the way down to the bottom to get to the white line, so I shorted the corner a little bit and messed it up. I couldn't get back to the gas, so I pinched it up too much in the center and wasn't able to get a good run up off the corner. These M&M's Toyota guys did a great job today. Steve Addington (crew chief) worked hard and made some good calls. I wish we could've been on the pole two years in a row, but it's hard to beat 'Flying Ryan' (Newman). We'll take that I guess and see what we can get in practice on Saturday for the 600."
Are you disappointed in your qualifying lap?
"I'm very disappointed. It really just wasn't what we expected. I had a great (turns) one and two. The car really stuck down there well. We messed up (turns) three and four trying to make sure I got down to the bottom of the race track. I got down there too soon and had to pinch the car in the center and slowed it down. I didn't get to keep my momentum through the corners. All in all, it was a good run for the M&M's Toyota. I just wish we could've been a little bit better."
Were you working the steering wheel more than normal in your lap?
"I haven't seen it on TV, but it didn't feel that bad. I was trying to make sure that it wouldn't bust loose because I pinched it so much getting in to turn three, that I didn't have a good arc off the corner. Typically, when you arc it in real nice, you can get a smooth arc through the center and a straighter drive up off the corner. I was the exact opposite. I was straight in and then had to arc it up off. I hate doing that, but that was the kind of line that I chose, I guess."
