Qualifying for Sunday's UAW-GM Quality 500 at Charlotte was officially cancelled Friday morning. Jimmie Johnson will start third while leading Raybestos® Rookie Ryan Newman starts fourth.

CHAD KNAUS, CREW CHIEF, #48 LOWE'S CHEVROLET:

WAS THE RAINOUT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE OR DID YOU WANT TO QUALIFY?

"We would have liked to have qualified to see if we had a shot at the pole. I think the Lowe's Chevrolet was going to run really good. We had a decent practice session and found some things right before qualifying I think that were definitely going to help us out. We'll take third. We're definitely pleased with that. We'll get to work on our race setup and I think we'll have a good day."

HOW MUCH WILL THE RAIN CHANGE THE TRACK WHEN PRACTICE STARTS SATURDAY MORNING?

"We have Busch qualifying and the ARCA race and all that so it's not going to change it a whole lot. The way they have the practice schedule nowadays on Saturday we practice early in the morning and we get a small break and then we get another small practice session and then they run the Busch race after that. The track changes so much that it really doesn't matter a whole lot. And just being Lowe's Motor Speedway, this track changes from lap to lap. Temperature is very critical here on how the car handles so you're going to fight that all day here."

HOW DOES THE RAINOUT ALTER YOUR TEAM'S SCHEDULE?

"We're going to get about the same amount of time off; the only problem is that we had to be up at four o'clock this morning to be here. Speaking for myself, I don't like that (laughs) and I know a lot of my guys don't like that. We should still be out of here by 12 o'clock so it won't be too bad."

MATT BORLAND, CREW CHIEF, #12 ALLTEL FORD:

DO YOU THINK YOU HAD A SHOT AT THE POLE?

"I think we had a shot. I'm a little disappointed and a little relieved. We're fourth in points so we could have qualified a lot worse or we might have qualified a little better. It's a good starting spot. I think once the first round of pit stops happens it's all going to shake up anyway so it's not a big deal one way or the other."

DOES THE RAIN WASHING THE TRACK CLEAN THROW YOU OFF ON YOUR SETUPS?

"It will probably change the setup some, but this place changes so much that it's hard to tell what this track is going to do. It seems like sometimes at night it tighter and sometimes it gets looser and in the day sometimes it gets looser and sometimes it gets tighter. Sometimes with the rain it does one thing. This place it's hard to tell. You almost have to start the race somewhere safe and work on it through the race."

HOW DID THE RAINOUT ALTER YOUR SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY?

"We probably would have been in here anyway to change over to race trim and we would have started that at nine. Now we are actually an hour earlier so that has actually made it a little bit easier. We just had to get up a little bit earlier in the morning but it's not a big deal."
