Casey Mears and No. 41 Target/BCRF Dodge
Target Team Facts:
* Fan Participation: NASCAR fans have three opportunities to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) along with Casey Mears and the Target team.
o Mears will auction off his one-of-a-kind helmet donated by Troy Lee Designs on eBay. The auction for the helmet he will wear in the five races in October will begin on Oct. 21.
o A silent auction began at the Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates gift shop for the pink hood of the No. 41 Target Dodge that Mears ran at Talladega. The auction will end this Friday night.
o The proceeds from the pink racing products sold at caseymears.com, in the CGRFS gift shop and at Mears' trackside trailer will also benefit the BCRF. Items for purchase include a diecast of the pink No. 41 Target Dodge, shirts, hats and other pink trinkets. An exclusive line of pink products benefiting the BCRF can also be purchased at Target.com and in Target stores.
* Standings: Mears and the Target team moved up one position in the standings to 24th following their top-10 effort at Kansas last weekend. The team has finished in the top 10 in two of the last three races (Dover, Kansas).
* Lowe's: Mears has five NEXTEL Cup starts at the 1.5-mile Lowe's Motor Speedway. His best finish at the track came in the 2004 Coca Cola 600 where he finished seventh. Mears battled back from two-laps down in the spring race at Lowe's this season, only to see the team's effort foiled after the No. 1 car made contact with the Target Dodge.
* Chassis: Crew chief Jimmy Elledge and the Target Team are returning to the track this weekend with chassis #206, the same chassis that finished eighth at Kansas. This chassis will be making its eighth appearance this season. Mears drove this chassis to two other top-10 finishes this season, a sixth-place finish at Indianapolis and a ninth-place finish at Chicagoland.
Casey Mears Quotes:
On Charlotte: "The last three races have been extremely encouraging for the Target team," said Mears. "We have a car that works well on tracks like Lowe's Motor Speedway and has proven results this season. We don't really know what to expect this weekend with the changes to the track, but I'm sure there will be great racing. The races in Charlotte are exciting because it provides an opportunity to race in front of the guys that don't travel, but work hard back at the shop on our race cars. I want to run well for them to show them how much I appreciate what they do."
