CONCORD, NC - Dale Earnhardt Jr. put his No. 8 Budweiser Monte Carlo SS in fourth place on the starting grid and Denny Hamlin posted a sixth place spot in his No. 11 FedEx Monte Carlo, leading 19 Team Chevy drivers to the start of the longest race on the circuit, the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The 400-lap event, Round 12 on the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series tour, is set to take the green flag on Sunday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. EDT and be aired live on FOX.
DALE EARNHARDT, JR, NO. 8 BUDWEISER MONTE CARLO SS - STARTING FOURTH
"I am really proud of this paint job. It is great to work with the military and to honor our troops for what they do for us. We are going to definitely going to do a little celebrating on Memorial Day but before that, we have a little business with this race. We are going to get down to work. This is a good starting spot for us. I am pretty excited.
"I am just concentrating on the race this weekend, concentrating on qualifying today. Trying to give Tony Gibson all the information I can and make this situation as comfortable for his as I possibly can. He is a great guy and going to do a good job for us this weekend. Tony, Jr. (Eury) has given him all the information he can to make this as workable as possible. I am very confident that Tony (Gibson) is going to do a great job. It is child's play to him, he has been in this sport for a long time. I am really glad he is in a position he is to fill in a roll like this.
"I don't think the phone ever hung up with Tony, Jr. giving us as much help as he could to get us comfortable with what we needed for a setup and help Tony (Gibson). But I have a lot of confidence in our team and how we are going to run this weekend. Everyone has really stepped up and is working hard to get us the finishes we need."
DENNY HAMLIN, NO. 11 FEDEX FREIGHT/MARINES MONTE CARLO SS: STARTING 6TH
"I knew it would only be a matter of time before someone would knock us off the top going out as early as we did. But it was a great run for us under those conditions. So we are pretty happy with it. We are going to be pretty pleased.
"I feel really good about the crew. We made the changes at a time when it needed to be done. This has been going on for a year or so, for the most part. It was time to make a change and get better. When we get in the Chase we are ready to contend for a championship."
JEFF GREEN, NO. 66 BEST BUY / FISHER HOUSE CHEVROLET - IN ON OP:
"Definitely not the way we wanted to start the weekend. We were a little tight in practice, so we made the decision to free it up, and it just got away from me on that qualifying lap. I hate it for my guys and everyone at Best Buy and the Fisher House Foundation. I wanted to give them a better starting spot for the kickoff to the fundraiser. This is one race where I'm glad I've got 600 miles to work my way to the front."
