FORD RACING NOTES AND QUOTES UAW-GM Quality 500 Advance October 10, 1999 Lowe's Motor Superspeedway
Today's scheduled running of the UAW-GM Quality 500 has been postponed due to rain. The race has been rescheduled for 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 11. Following are the comments of Ford driver Jeff Burton on today's washout.
JEFF BURTON --99-- Exide Batteries Taurus -- A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO AT LOUDON YOU SAID THERE COULD BE SOME GOOD THAT COMES OUT OF A RAIN DAY, BUT THAT'S NOT THE CASE ON RACE DAY IS IT? "Yeah, on race day everybody is all pumped up and excited and ready to go, so rain days on race day aren't that good. It's really not that big of a deal, you can't change your car and you can't change your setup. I guess NASCAR will keep the cars, that's what they oughta do, I don't know if they will or not, so it really doesn't affect very much. You just go home and get a good night's rest and come back and do it again tomorrow."
IS IT A CASE TOO WHERE IT'S ALREADY BEEN A LONG WEEK AND ANOTHER DAY HAS BEEN ADDED TO IT? "It's ridiculous that we're at Charlotte as long as we are anyway. To have to be at a race track for six days with one of those being a rain day is ridiculous and that's just part of the whole deal about being here so long. These guys are gone away from home enough and to extend this thing as long as it gets extended at Charlotte is ridiculous, but I guess that's what the race track wants to do."
HOW WILL THE TRACK BE AFFECTED BY THE RAIN? "It will be a totally different track, but it really would be a totally different track regardless. You just have to be ready and on the first pit stop make the right adjustments. That's gonna be real important because this track will change a lot."
HOW MUCH AFFECT AS FAR AS TALLADEGA? "Well, it puts everything behind for Talladega a little bit, but we prepare for that. We go into the week understanding that we could get a rain delay and we try our very best not to get that far behind. Sometimes out of necessity you do get that far behind, but, fortunately we're in pretty good shape. I know some other teams may be that far behind, but it doesn't affect us a great deal."
WILL THOSE UP FRONT HAVE A BETTER CHANCE TOMORROW? "I don't know that it really matters. If we take off tomorrow and don't run very fast because we didn't adapt to the conditions, then we needed to start up front. It's all in how your car runs. If your car drives good and does what it needs to do, it doesn't matter where you start, but if it won't, you need to start in the front because that buys you some time."
