Newly crowned NASCAR Nextel Cup champion Kurt Busch started his first day of Champion's Week in the Big Apple as he helped to kick off the Today Show's annual Toys for Tots.
"There are a lot of bears," commented the young champion on the toy of choice. Busch was looking a bit like one of Santa's elfs as he collected the toys in his Santa hat.
"To see all the people, now that's special. I haven't been able to wipe the smile off my face," added Busch. He obviously was enjoying the morning as much as the fans who had gathered not only to donate the toys, but also to see the champion.
Busch did not disappoint as his grin was as genuine as his comraderie with the fans. He sported the new champion's jacket - a definite one-of-a-kind. The first word stated "inaugural" as Busch earned the first Nextel Cup crown.
Busch was interviewed by the Today Show co-host Matt Lauer before venturing to Live with Regis and Kelly. Co-hosts' Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa listened intently as Busch described the 2004 season's final race where he clinched the title before the duo enjoyed switching over to their usual playful fun and games.
