NASCAR expands current spotters policy to include practice sessions.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 13, 2002) - NASCAR officials have announced that teams in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will require the use of spotters during all practice sessions, beginning with next weekend's respective race schedules.

The new policy will complement the current rule that requires teams to provide a spotter during races. Any teams not meeting this requirement will not be permitted to practice until a spotter is situated in the proper area.

The procedure will require spotters to pick up their "spotter's pass" from NASCAR on the first day of their respective series' on-track activity rather than race day and report to the designated spotters' stand before each practice session.

The NASCAR Winston Cup Series will be competing next weekend at Martinsville Speedway while the NASCAR Busch Series will be at Memphis Motorsports Park. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series returns to action Nov. 2 at California Speedway.
