DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 11, 2003) - Now batting: Richard Petty. Reggie Jackson is on deck. Rick Hendrick is on third, Dale Jarrett dusts himself off after a head-first slide into second and Elliott Sadler stops at first after a base hit.

For the 2003 NASCAR All-Star Baseball Team, such a scenario is not all that far-fetched. Richard Petty, a seven-time NASCAR Winston Cup Series champion and former high school baseball star, and Jackson, a 14-time All-Star with five World Series titles and an owner in the NASCAR Busch Series, headline a team that features former professional, college and high school players who now ply their trades throughout NASCAR.

While the father-son tandems in Major League Baseball include the Griffeys, Boones and Bonds', the NASCAR team has a famous father-son tandem of its own - "The King" and his son, Kyle.

Each of NASCAR's national series (NASCAR Winston Cup, NASCAR Busch and NASCAR Craftsman Truck) is represented on the All-Star team.

Other 2003 NASCAR All-Star Baseball Team highlights include:

* NASCAR Grand National Division, Winston West Series driver Mike Duncan was a 10th- round selection by the Oakland A's in 1985;

* NASCAR Busch Series owner Tad Geschickter was a member of the NCAA all-tournament team as a catcher for William & Mary in 1983;

* NASCAR Winston Cup and NASCAR Busch Series driver Derrike Cope was heavily scouted by the Cubs and Orioles before a knee injury ended his baseball career and instead turned his focus to stock car racing.
