Kansas City, Kansas--Joe Gibbs Racing driver Bobby Labonte was involved in a hard crash during the Winston Cup Series' final practice session. Labonte lost control of his #18 Pontiac and hit the outside retaining wall hard. The rearend of the car began to spin around, and Labonte, hoping to keep the car off of the wall nailed the throttle. He hit the wall at top speed. After being checked out at the infield care center Labonte said his car was simply "too loose."

During Friday night's Busch Series Happy Hour, Robert Yates Racing's rookie, Kasey Kahne hit the wall in is #98 Ford. Jimmy Spencer, driving the #1 Chevrolet also made contact with the outside retaining wall in a separate incident. Both drivers will drop to the tail end of the field prior to the start of today's Mr. Goodcents 300. Spencer was set to start from the fourth position.

Team Bristol's Kevin Grubb was involved in an accident last weekend at Dover and has decided to sit out today's Busch race. During yesterday's final practice session, Winston Cup driver Casey Atwood drove the car. Today, veteran driver Tim Fedewa will take over the driving duties. Grubb had qualified his #54 36th, the last car to make the field on time. Fedewa will of course drop to the tail end before the green flag.
