Spectacular Veterans Day Tribute to take place at Homestead-Miami Speedway
MIAMI, FL (November 7, 2001) - General Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong, Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force, will be the Grand Marshal for the NASCAR Winston Cup Pennzoil 400 on November 11 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The presence of General Foglesong coincides with the special Veterans Day Tribute during the NASCAR Winston Cup Pennzoil 400 Weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. At the Veterans Day Tribute, fans will have several opportunities to experience the best of the United States Armed Forces.
"We're honored to have General Foglesong as the Grand Marshal for the NASCAR Winston Cup Pennzoil 400," said Curtis Gray, President of Homestead-Miami Speedway. "General Foglesong's contributions cap off what will be a spectacular Veterans Day Tribute on race weekend."
General Foglesong is the Vice Chief of Staff for the United States Air Force Headquarters in Washington, D.C. As Vice Chief and subject to the authority, direction and control of the Chief of Staff and Secretary of the Air Force, General Foglesong presides over the Air Staff and serves as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joint Requirements Oversight Council. General Fogelsong, who earned his wings at Columbus Air Force Base (Miss.), has accumulated more than 3,400 flying hours primarily in fighter, and trainer assignments in the A-10, AT-33, AT/T-38, F-15, and F-16.
In addition to recognizing General Foglesong, fans will be exposed to a multitude of military experiences and themes, all culminating with a spectacular pre-race show prior to the NASCAR Winston Cup Pennzoil 400 on Veterans Day, November 11.
Highlights of the Veterans Day Tribute include an Air Force fly-by, a search and rescue demonstration by the United States Coast Guard, an aerial demonstration by the United States Army "Golden Knights" Parachute Team, a 21-gun salute, and the recognition of all veterans from NASCAR teams.
There will also be several fan interactive activities at the Speedway in conjunction with the Veterans Day Tribute.
Courtesy of the United States Air Force, fans will have the opportunity to experience an F-16 flight simulator. At the display, fans will be able to experience several phases of F-16 flight simulation, culminating with the ultimate "F-16 Simulation", a five minute mission with graphics and sound where pilots must avoid enemy radar and shoot unmanned targets using an actual Air Force simulator joy stick. Following the flight simulation, fans will receive a commemorative Photo ID and Air Force CD. In addition to the F-16 flight simulator, an actual United States Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon Jet (9,000 pounds in weight) will be on display for fans to peruse.
The United States Army is presenting a variety of fan interactive activities including the Rock Wall to test one's strength, the Inflatable Bungee Run to test one's agility, and the Laser-Guided Marksmanship Unit to test one's eye. The United States Army sponsored NHRA Top Fuel Dragster will also be on hand.
