Busch finishes 14th at Charlotte Motor Speedway

CONCORD, N.C. (Oct. 12, 2013) – Kurt Busch finished 14th in Saturday night’s Bank of America 500 Sprint Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

“Not much to say, it wasn’t a good night for our Furniture Row team,” stated Busch. “We lost the handling of the car and it was a struggle the entire night. We had an upbeat feeling about tonight after having two strong practices on Friday. But nothing really materialized for us to make a charge.”

At the halfway mark of the 10-race Chase, Busch remained in seventh place in the driver point standings. He is one point out of sixth. (see Chase point standings below)

Busch started the 334-lap, 500-mile race from the 10th position. He ran a good portion of the event in the top-10 but as the race wore on he started to lose track position and eventually fell a lap down. He was in position to get the "Lucky Dog" free pass, but the caution never came.

“We were the first car a lap down and needed that caution to get back on the lead lap to have an opportunity to gain a few more positions,” noted Busch. "It’s disappointing to finish where we did after having a number of solid runs on the mile-and-a-half tracks, including last week’s runner-up result at Kansas.”

In the previous five races at a 1.5-mile track, Busch had an average finish of 3.8.

“We have five more races remaining and I know we can bounce back from tonight,” added Busch. “We have done it before and we can do it again.”

The race winner was Brad Keselowski. Rounding out the top-10 in order were: Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman, Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards.

The race had 24 lead changes among 11 drivers and four cautions for 20 laps.

The next Sprint Cup Series race is Sunday (Oct. 20) at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway where Busch will drive the No. 78 Wonder bread Chevrolet, which will have a similar paint scheme that appeared in the Talladega Nights motion picture.
