DALE JARRETT-88-UPS Taurus (qualified 8th)

"We do expect good things Sunday. The car drove really good, and I actually thought that might've been fast enough to get below a .20, but somewhere along the way it wasn't. I probably used up a little too much getting into three, just rolled out of the gas there because my car, it did not want to turn when I got in there a little harder, so I wanted to make sure that we got it to turn and stay close to the bottom, and it did all of that, but I might've given up a little, but we're happy with that." IT'S COOLED OFF SINCE IT'S STARTED. "It makes it stick better here. So, yeah, if you were on the tight side. You're probably going to get a little bit, but if you were kind of on the free side, it's probably going to help your car some, so it's just going to make it fast. You got to really get after it here, so track conditions are about ideal right now."

RYAN NEWMAN-12-ALLTEL Taurus (qualified 9th)

"The first lap was a little loose, didn't really expect that a whole lot, had to do a whole lot of correcting. But, you never try to go for the pole here on your second lap, that's for sure."

STILL, YOU'RE IN GOOD SHAPE FOR SUNDAY? "Yeah, we have a top 10 and then sometimes you can ask for more, but sometimes you don't get it."

KURT BUSCH-97-Rubbermaid Taurus (qualified 13th)

"It was one of those days where I was a bit concerned just because the car was there and the driver just didn't understand the track. This is by no means Fontana, and I did real well there as far as qualifying was concerned, but yet I've never done bad here. And I wanted to lay down a lap for the guys and we picked up a half a second, so we did the job as far as driver was concerned, it's just what do I have to change on it to make it go faster is what I'm concerned about. So, it was a great lap for us. Our Ford was running strong where it needed to, and that's through the corners, and we'll just work on it from there."

SO THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRACTICE AND QUALIFYING WAS YOU? "I thought I needed to charge turn one a lot harder than I had been. Normally, that's a bad sign of approaching logic wrong. With these cars these days you want to back the corner up a little bit, and I thought I was giving up by going in too light, because the car was getting loose in the middle of the corner. So, there were adjustments I made in the car. I told the guys to leave the car alone, I'm going to go drive it. And so I think going out this late really helped us. That's really why we picked up."

MARK MARTIN-6-Pfizer/Viagra Taurus (qualified 17th)

"We were just all over the place in practice. This is not the car we raced up here last time, and under the circumstances we'd a lot better off for qualifying if we had brought it because we would've known where to be. We were all over the place and just took a guess at it, and actually that's quite a bit better than I expected to run. We were just all over the place in practice. So, that's going to be a good starting spot considering we didn't get much practice and we were off big time in practice, so hopefully we'll get our hour and a half for Happy Hour, and we'll get this thing handling right and we can be a contender."

BRETT BODINE-11-Hooters Restaurants (qualified 18th)

"We found a problem in our practice qualifying run. The front sway bar messed up a little bit. I kind of lost a little confidence in the car, and Buddy and the guys said, 'Hey, look, this'll fix it. Just drive it in there and it'll be okay.' And, gosh, darn, I can't believe we ran that fast."

THAT'S THE BIGGEST SMILE SEEN ON YOUR FACE IN YEARS. "Well, our qualifying has been so pathetic, you know? We looked like we were going to have another bad day, and thank God we found that little problem with the sway bar and Buddy [Sisco, crew chief] told me that it would be alright, it'll make it. And, it was a great run. I'm tickled to death. I never expected to run that fast."

IS THAT THE HAPPIEST YOU'VE BEEN AFTER A QUALIFYING RUN IN A LONG TIME? "It's been a long time. You know, ever since Daytona we kind of took a nosedive - when we crashed our good car down there, and I got hurt, and I've still got three busted ribs and I can't get them to heal. It's been a little bit of a sour time, but supper's going to taste awfully good tonight, even though if it is going to be a little late."

ELLIOTT SADLER-21-Motorcraft Taurus (qualified 20th)

"We've been struggling real, real bad since we got here. We brought an experimental car and it just kind of bit us a little bit. I'm proud of the guys on how hard we're all working on it, trying to fix it, we're just behind the eight-ball right now, and hopefully we'll get some things figured out or fixed before we start the race on Sunday. Right now, we'd be in a world of hurt. I think the reason we qualified as good as we did is just because of the time of day we went out. We got a lot of work to do."

MATT KENSETH-17-DeWalt Power Tools Taurus (qualified 21st)

"I was hoping better for that. My DeWalt car got too loose on me. It was pretty good. Got through one and two relatively fast, and the car was just too loose to get off four the way I wanted to. So, I left quite a bit of time laying there; should've had the car a little tighter."

TODD BODINE-26-Discover Card Taurus (qualified 22nd)

"Pretty good in one and two. Both laps I didn't get right in three and four and that cost us some time, but that's definitely the best the car's been. We made some changes for qualifying and they were for the better."

JEFF BURTON-99-Citgo Taurus (qualified 25th)

"Yeah, it was good lap. I think they're going to beat us up; I think it's going to get faster and faster. We never got to make a bonsai run in practice so I think it was certainly a good lap for us, because we never got a try at it. I don't know where that's going to put us. Like I say, I think the track's going to continually get faster, but I'm pleased with the effort."

RICKY RUDD-28-Havoline Taurus (qualified 31st)

"That actually helped the car from practice. It's just too tight. It wouldn't turn in the corner. It was just too tight. You can't run fast at Michigan if you're tight. They freed it up some, but never did get it right." IS THERE ROOM HERE TO GROW FOR SUNDAY? "I don't know. Everybody's got two completely night and day set-ups. This car is the one we came here with last time, and I don't think we qualified that well with it, but ran in the top five, top 10 all day. It finished like sixth or seventh. We were running fourth before that red flag situation over there. So, this car sort of did this last time. It was tight, but when you untape the grill and you put it in race trim, I think it'll be pretty good. But certainly we missed it qualifying."

DAVE BLANEY-77-Jasper Engines & Transmissions Taurus (qualified 36th)

"We've just been slow all day and we're still slow. I don't know where we're missing it so bad, but we can't get it to do much right here. We'll try tomorrow."

RUSTY WALLACE-2-Miller Lite Taurus (qualified 38th)

"It's a decent lap, but the car's been off ever since we've unloaded it. We've had a lot of problems with the air dam bottoming out. I'm not a real happy camper right now. But we're working on this car to try to get it really good. I know we can win this race on Sunday. This is 'Mad Max,' a really good ol' hot rod. We'll get the race set-up in this baby tomorrow and pay a lot of attention to it. A real slow start today. We lost that one hour of practice and we had two many little things go wrong with the car. We got a qualifying lap done. I'm afraid we're going to start way in the back, but, hey, I've won this race from way in the back. We'll just have to do it again."

RYAN NEWMAN Press Conference

DESPITE GREAT STATISTICS, YOU HAVEN'T WON YET. ARE YOU HAPPY WITH YOUR SEASON?

"Yeah, we're happy with it, but we still want that win - make that plural, wins - that's something that the team's worked hard at. We got some good stats going, and we need to keep that going, no doubt, but we still need to try hard."
