NASCAR Officials Confiscate Two Cars For Inspection Infractions at Bristol Motor Speedway

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 26, 2004) -- NASCAR officials confiscated the No. 42 Dodge of Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates and the No. 14 Dodge of A.J. Foyt Racing during Friday's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series opening inspection at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The No. 42 car was taken for failure to meet the specifications for the diagonal measurement of the rear window while the No. 14 did not comply with the left and right roof longitudinal templates. Both cars were confiscated because NASCAR officials determined that the infractions could not be fixed in a timely manner at the race track.

The cars will be transported by NASCAR to its Research and Development Center in Concord, N.C., this evening and impounded for further review. Additional reaction to these infractions, if any, will be announced upon completion of the reviews.

Jamie McMurray, driver of the No. 42 entry, and Larry Foyt, driver of the No. 14 entry, will be required to go to a back-up car to compete in this weekend's event. Neither driver will be required to start at the rear of the field for switching to a back-up car since it occurred prior to qualifying.
