Dale Earnhardt Jr. - driver, No. 8 Budweiser team:
"I felt like we let one slip away last time at Bristol (finished 11th in the Food City 500 on March 28). We were real good, led a bunch of laps, but didn't get the job done. I want a Bristol win really bad on my resume, because it's hard to win there and we've been so close. We're capable of doing it. We've just got to put the pieces together and not make any mistakes.
On his continued recovery from burns suffered in a sports-car accident:
"Slowly but surely I'm getting better. It takes a long time for burns to heal. I'll sit and look at my burns, and they don't look like they're getting any better... still there and still gross. But I guess I'm moving around a little better each week. I definitely started to regain my normal walk last week, but the burns are still kind of tender."
Dale Jr. and the Budweiser team have two top-fives and three top-10s at Bristol Motor Speedway, with their best finish a third place in the Sharpie 500 on Aug. 24, 2002. Dale Jr. has competed at Bristol nine times in the NEXTEL Cup Series, posting six starts of 12th or better.
The Brew Crew has posted top-five finishes in nine of the last 15 races at tracks less than one mile in length. Dale Jr. recorded his second career short-track win earlier this season at the three-quarter mile Richmond International Raceway (May 15). Specifically at half-mile tracks, Dale Jr. has seven top-five finishes in the last 10 races.
With three races to go before the "Chase for the Championship" begins, Dale Jr. remains in third place in the NEXTEL Cup championship standings, 139 points behind leader Jeff Gordon. The Bud team has three wins, 10 top-fives, and 13 top-10 finishes in 2004. Dale Jr. is one only four drivers to remain in the top-10 in points all season long.
Aside from piloting the No. 8 Budweiser Chevrolet, Dale Jr. will also enter in the Food City 250 NASCAR Busch Series race (Friday at 8 p.m. ET on TNT). Dale Jr. has competed in three Busch Series races this year, with a win and a second-place finish among the three starts.
