"I don't know, it was just one of them racing things. We were trying to race the lapped cars, trying to get around the lapped cars. You know, we stayed out on the set of tires, the car was driving great. I tried cutting in behind the 1, I thought had room there, in between the 23, and we just got together. It's very unfortunate. This is one of the best cars I've ever had here, the thing was driving great. We just had to start too far back. It comes at a bad time."
ELLIOTT SADLER-21-Motorcraft Taurus
"Just got run in the back of, just normal Bristol stuff. We had a really good race car. We'll get 'em next time."
RICKY RUDD-28-Havoline Taurus
"Well, what I saw today was a lot of even race cars. I don't know if anybody was any faster than each other. It was just pit strategy all day what was going to win it, and our guys gave us great track position."
THE CAR SEEMS TO BE MARK FREE. DID YOU STAY OUT OF ALL THE TROUBLE? "Yeah, I don't think we hardly got a dent on it, I think, which is, I think, a first for me at Bristol."
THE BEST FINISH FOR ROBERT YATES RACING THIS YEAR. "I think it just shows we turned around a little bit. That was a brand-new race car today, it was untested. Tested only here at Bristol in race trim. But it did a great job, the car was good. I think we're back on the right track. You know, this track here is not aerodynamic, it's all about handling and chassis. At least we know what area we're off on. We know we gotta work on the aero package right now. And we're good on chassis, I think it showed that today."
MATT KENSETH-17-DeWalt Tool Taurus
"It was a great effort for us, we just kept getting blocked in the pits and losing so many spots, it just hurt us all day. We just could never get out front. But, we had a real strong car all day. To come here and go home sixth that's a great effort for us."
AND A GOOD SEASON CONTINUES FOR YOU... "Yeah, we started off on a great foot right now, obviously. Everything's been rolling for us, other than our crash at Daytona, we've been running good every week.. That's what we need to do."
AND YOU HAVE A TEAMMATE IN VICTORY LANE. "Yeah, that's awesome. I feel great for Kurt and them, you know, with their big switch over the winter and swapping teams out and all that stuff. I feel great for Kurt and Jimmy Fennig and those guys."
DAVE BLANEY-77-Jasper Engines & Transmissions Taurus
"The car went from tight to loose and we spent most of the first half of the race sliding around the track. But the last adjustments were great. We caught a caution at the right time and fixed the problem, and started moving up. Then something changed and the car lost grip again. All things considered, 17th is good. The 77 Jasper Ford held in there and we kept improving.
VICTORY LANE COMMENTS
KURT BUSCH-97-Rubbermaid Taurus
"You can't get any better than this. This is Bristol, hopefully, we'll come back in the fall race and do a double in the Sharpie 500."
YOU WENT 157 LAPS ON THOSE TIRES. WERE YOU CONCERNED? "I saw Elliott Sadler do here last spring. The tires last forever. Goodyear brought good stuff that just keeps lasting, Jack brought the engine that keeps lasting, and this is what it's all about."
JIMMY FENNIG, crew chief-97-Rubbermaid Taurus
"It's great. It's great for this whole team. We strive on team effort, that we can't do it by one person, everybody's got to jump in. That's what it's about. We're happy for Kurt."
NOTE: Kurt Busch scores his first career NASCAR Winston Cup victory in his 48th start. It is Jimmy Fennig's 17th career victory as a NASCAR Winston Cup crew chief.
