JEREMY MAYFIELD (No. 19 Dodge Dealers Dodge Intrepid R/T)
NOTE: Mayfield qualified third fastest for Sunday's race.

"I'm proud of these guys. We rolled off the truck good. We were hoping we could start in the top 10 somewhere. The guys really worked hard on the car. It kept getting better and better. We made some good decisions and went out and had a great run. It was cool today, and I think that's why you saw speeds a little faster than usual. The weather didn't change, and we didn't have to worry about it raining or anything. It was just a great day for us.

"We picked up from practice, and we feel real good about that. We've been doing that the past few weeks. We feel real good about our qualifying effort. Any time you can pick up from practice to qualifying, that's a pretty good accomplishment in itself. I think you saw quite a few guys slow down from practice. We've got a great crew, and they kept that Dodge Dealers Dodge running good.

"I like this track, but this is the best I've ever qualified here by far. We were excited about coming here, but you never know about Bristol. It's just like Talladega, you're either real good or real bad. We were good right off the truck and we're excited about the race. We've been starting in the back, trying to work our way back to the front, and we get caught up in stuff. It's going to be a lot better starting up front.

"The car drove great. We knew we had a little left for qualifying and that was just me getting in the gas and holding it down."

BUCKSHOT JONES (No. 44 Georgia Pacific Dodge Intrepid R/T)
NOTE: Jones qualified 36th fastest.

"We had a top five car in practice, but we didn't get in a good qualifying lap."

BILL ELLIOTT (No. 9 Dodge Dealers Intrepid R/T)
NOTE: Elliott qualified 30th.

"Going out early is always a negative here. It's hard to get everything like you need it. We'll just have to take what we've got and race Sunday."

WARD BURTON (No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge Intrepid R/T)
NOTE: Burton qualified 29th. He finished fifth in the 2001 Food City 500.

"We hadn't been able to get the car to go over the bumps straight. It makes it drive up the track. That's today. We've got another day to work on it. We'll be good on Sunday."

JOHN ANDRETTI (No. 43 Cheerios Dodge Intrepid R/T)
NOTE: Andretti qualified 21st. He finished second in the 2001 Food City 500.

"I wish we could have been a little better, but at least we're not starting too far back. We'll work on things and get ready for Sunday. It's hard passing here, but it's a long race and I think we're going to be all right."

CASEY ATWOOD (No. 7 Sirius Satellite Radio Dodge Intrepid R/T)
NOTE: Atwood qualified 19th.

"I thought we could have run faster. Going out there on cold tires is something we hadn't done yet. The car got too loose in the corners and I couldn't get back on the gas hard. I like it here pretty good when you're out there by yourself. It's a little hard to run on with 43 cars. It's fun, and I've always run pretty good."

JIMMY SPENCER (No. 41 Target Dodge Intrepid R/T)
NOTE: Spencer qualified fourth.

"I'm real proud of this team. We've really been qualifying well. I can't say enough about the team. I feel like we could have been faster. We didn't run well in practice, but I was overdriving in the corner. If I had to do it over, I believe I could have run a tenth quicker. We picked up two or three tenths from practice. It's tough. You never know what's going to happen."

KYLE PETTY (No. 45 Sprint Dodge Intrepid R/T)
NOTE: Petty qualified 35th.

"We got loose on both laps. I think we've got a pretty good car, but we didn't get in good qualifying laps."

HUT STRICKLIN (No. 23 Hills Bros Coffee Dodge Intrepid R/T)
NOTE: Stricklin will start 42nd.

"We were loose getting in and tight in the middle. That's the way we've been all day and we can't seem to get it fixed."

STERLING MARLIN (No. 40 Coors Light Dodge Intrepid R/T)
NOTE: Marlin qualified 16th.

"We slowed down about a tenth. The car didn't grip like it did before. The front end just wouldn't stick. I think we'll be OK for the race. If you miss it here just a little bit, you're a tenth off and that put us 16th. I don't think we're starting too far back. You couldn't start any further back than we did last week and we did OK. Of course, this is Bristol and it's hard to pass. You want to get up front as quick as you can so you can stay out of trouble, or at least try to stay out of trouble."
