#00 Domino's Pizza Toyota One Corner Short at Bristol
Bristol, TN -- David Reutimann, driver of the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota came up one corner short of delivering his first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series start at Bristol Motor Speedway. The Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender qualified the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota 40th in Bud Pole Qualifying today from Bristol Motor Speedway.
"This is disappointing -- to be so close and have it get away from you. I mean, the track was a little slick but the car felt fine going through the first few turns, and then it just broke loose off turn four, said David Reutimann.
The #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota is one of the new Michael Waltrip Racing teams, meaning that they have to qualify in the top seven of the teams that are required to make it in the race on speed. Unfortunately, only seven spots are open for these drivers to compete for, and David was one of the cars that was not fast enough at the checkered flag and will not be racing on Sunday in the Food City 500. Even with David's time being better than numerous top-35 teams such as Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick, David Regan, Reed Sorenson and Kurt Busch.
"I watched a replay of the lap and it was going fine -- around 12th to 14th, but the car got really loose in turn four and killed our time. It's a shame -- the #00 Domino's Pizza Toyota was better than a majority of the other non-35 cars, said crew chief Frank Kerr".
