INDIANAPOLIS (August 4, 2002) - Notes from the Ninth Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Two NASCAR Winston Cup drivers share birthdays today, Jeff Gordon turns 31 and Kurt Busch turns 24.

Each car will be shod with Goodyear tires with codes D-6344 on the left side and 6346 for the right side. Tire combinations at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway are the same as those used at Homestead-Miami Speedway and Pocono Raceway. Inner liners, required on all four wheels, are inflated 12-25 psi greater than the outer tire pressure.

***

No front-row starter has ever won the Brickyard 400. A driver starting in the second row has won three of the last four races.

***

Mike Skinner, Mike Wallace, Jeff Green and Bobby Hamilton started from the rear of the field after making an engine change. NASCAR Winston Cup rules mandate the same engine be used for an entire weekend. Prior to the penalty, Bobby Hamilton was slated to start 32nd.

***

Five drivers exceeded Brett Bodine's two-year old track record of 181.072 in Saturday's qualifying.

***

Chevrolets have won four of the eight Winston Cup races run at Indianapolis. Ford has won three. Jeff Gordon earned three of Chevrolet's Brickyard 400 victories.

***

Jeff Gordon's 2001 win was scored form the 27th starting position, the furthest back of any winner.
