LAS VEGAS (Feb. 25, 1998) -- The NASCAR Winston Cup Series is making its first trip to Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 1 for the Las Vegas 400, but Todd Bodine has already logged numerous laps at the 1.5-mile oval in 1997 as part of the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division.
Bodine started last year's Las Vegas 300 in the ninth position and finished the event third. He hopes that his experience at the track will help him have somewhat of an edge on his competition, and will help him get untracked in an otherwise disappointing beginning to the 1998 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season.
Bodine has missed qualifying for both of the first two NASCAR Winston Cup Series races this season, the Daytona 500 and the GM Goodwrench Service Plus 400 at Rockingham last weekend.
"We had a tremendous run at Las Vegas last year," Bodine said. "We finished third but we should have been in Victory Lane. We are very optimistic about what TEAM TABASCO can do when the Winston Cup cars make laps at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the first time.
"We don't know what advantage, if any, we will have over the rest of the field because we have our notes from the Busch race last season, but we will find out pretty soon. Having already run 200 laps under racing conditions will have to be a plus for our team."
TEAM TABASCO will display a special paint scheme on its No. 35 Pontiac for the Las Vegas 400 and the PRIMESTAR 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. McIlhenny Company, makers of TABASCO brand Pepper Sauce, is using the splashy new green and black design to promote their Green Pepper Sauce. It is the third different paint scheme of the season for TEAM TABASCO Racing.
