Marlin Snaps Jinx in Atlanta

HAMPTON, Ga. (March 18, 2007)-- A 24th-place finish in Sunday's Nextel Cup event at Atlanta Motor Speedway snapped the jinx that has haunted Sterling Marlin and the No. 14 team since last season.

The veteran driver has suffered from bad fortune in the last eight events, dating back to Lowe's Motor Speedway on Oct. 15, 2006.

"We've struggled for a long time," said Marlin. "Whether it be a mechanical failure or getting caught up in an accident, trouble has found us. It's not a great finish, but it's a step in the right direction."

Marlin started 29th in the 325-lap, 500-mile race after an early draw in Friday's qualifying session contributed to a disappointing starting spot. But despite fighting a loose Panasonic Chevy throughout the event, Marlin was able to avoid trouble and bring home a clean finish.

"It wasn't the result we were looking for and we aren't satisfied with it, but we'll take it," said Marlin. "We finished the race with all the fenders on the Panasonic Chevy and with all the parts working and that's something we haven't done in a while."

"Hopefully we can take this finish and build on it starting at Bristol next week," Marlin continued. "That's my home track and I look forward to going there every year. A strong finish in Tennessee would be great."
