Atlanta * A Weekend Of "Firsts" For McMurray
CONCORD, N.C. (March 14, 2007) * After posting an exciting top-10 finish last weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Roush Fenway Racing driver Jamie McMurray prepares for another solid run at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend. Atlanta will mark many "firsts" for McMurray; he will prepare to run his first race of the season in the IRWIN Industrial Tools paint scheme, along with his first start with Roush Fenway Racing in the Busch Series.
IRWIN Industrial Tools will be the primary sponsor the No. 26 Ford Fusion this weekend in Atlanta, which marks the first of 11 races in which the IRWIN blue and yellow paint scheme will adorn McMurray's No. 26 machine. Atlanta is a special race for IRWIN Industrial Tools, as they are part of the Newell Rubbermaid Company, which is based in Atlanta.
"I've really been looking forward to running at Atlanta this weekend, not just because of our finish last week, but because it's a great track to race," said McMurray. "On top of the racing in Atlanta, we are showcasing the new 2007 IRWIN Industrial Tools paint scheme on our No. 26 Ford Fusion."
McMurray has a strong history of running well at Atlanta Motor Speedway. In nine career starts at the 1.54-mile speedway in the Cup Series, McMurray has three top-10 and six top-15 finishes. Atlanta is also the home of McMurray's first Busch Series win. McMurray took the checkered flag for his first Busch win on October 26, 2002.
"I remember winning that Busch Series race; it seems like such a long time ago. It was great because we went out and won again the following weekend at Rockingham. That was a special moment for me," McMurray reflected.
Along with the themes of "firsts," McMurray will be running for the first time in a Roush Fenway Racing Busch Series Ford Fusion. McMurray will pilot the No. 26 Dish Network Ford Fusion for Saturday's Nicorette 300.
"It's a pretty neat weekend for a lot of reasons," said McMurray. "Hopefully, we can have another good weekend like last week in Las Vegas. To have a good run on Saturday, and then to follow it up with a strong run for IRWIN Tools on Sunday would be the ideal weekend for me."
