MARTIN TRUEX JR., NO. 1 GUITAR HERO 5 IMPALA SS -- Pole Winner

ON YOUR QUALIFYING EFFORT. YOU HAVE TO BE HAPPY WITH STARTING ON THE POLE UNDER THE LIGHTS TOMORROW NIGHT

"Yeah I feel great. I just want to thank all the guys on my team. They did an awesome job today. We unloaded with the car and kind of struggled for a little while, but we hit on some things and worked on it throughout practice and then we had a half-hour break and made a lot more changes. And in that second practice, the car really came to life. I was real happy with it on the long runs. We ran probably more laps than anybody in race trim in the second practice and I felt real good about the car. I was happy with it and we did some qualifying runs and it was just okay. We made some more changes and right there at the end, we did some more. I got pretty happy with the car but we were out of tires. So we weren't really sure what we had. I just want to thank them again for their hard work. It's been kind of a tough season for us, but we've been working hard and battling hard and I think it kind of shows the character of guys on my team and how hard they work. Hopefully we can finish the deal off this weekend for them. I sure would like to get them in victory lane before the year is out."

DID YOU REALLY THINK YOU HAD A SHOT FOR THE POLE WHEN YOU WENT OUT TO QUALIFY?

"Well, you never know. I felt good about my car. Like I said, we were out of tires at the end of practice to really know what we had, but out of all the guys that ran qualifying runs at the end of practice, we were right around fifth or sixth out of those guys. So we felt good about that. But you never know. The track picked up a second. So you really never know what you have until you go out there. You just go out and drive it down in there and hope it does what you expect. Today, ours did. So I'm just proud of the guys. Kevin 'Bono' Manion (crew chief) made some air pressure adjustments out on pit road right before I went out and he hit it right on the head. So great job by him."

DO YOU KNOW IF BONO FOLLOWING YOU TO MICHAEL WALTRIP RACING? AND IF HE ISN'T, IS THAT ADDING ANY MORE TO THE URGENCY OF YOU GETTING A WIN BEFORE YOU LEAVE EGR?

"Well, I think the urgency is just that the year is coming to an end and it's been a tough year. We've had some great runs. We've really worked hard this year and we don't have a lot of results to show for it and that's frustrating. And that's the big reason why I would really like to get them in victory lane. I've had a great run with the team I have. A lot of the guys have been around since back in the Busch Series days and they're real special and real close to me and we're great friends. There are just a lot of reasons. It's going to be weird or strange to come to the race track and see that car on the track without me in it, you know. That's all I've ever driven in this series. I just want to go out on a high note for them and for all they've done for me and for all the work we've put in this year just trying to get the results that I feel like they deserve. Like I say, we've had some great cars and it just seems like there's always something that happens that takes it away from us and hopefully it'll all work out this weekend for them."

DO YOU THINK THAT WITH ALL THE EMPHASIS ON THE CHASE, THE ONLY WAY FOR SOMEBODY OUTSIDE THAT CONTENTION IS TO EITHER WIN THE POLE OR THE RACE TO GET THEIR FAIR AMOUNT OF ATTENTION?

"Yeah, I don't think it changes a thing. It's so competitive. Everybody is giving everything they have every time they're on the race track. It doesn't matter where they're at in points. The guys on the bubble, they're trying to get all they can. The guys up front, they're trying to get bonus points. So it doesn't really matter; Chase or not. The guys are going to race hard. Everybody out there wants to win and I don't think the Chase changes any of that."
