RYAN NEWMAN, No. 39 U.S. Army Impala SS, met with members of the media at Atlanta Motor Speedway and discussed racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the Chase and other topics.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT RACING THIS WEEKEND AT ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY?: "I look forward to the night race and I look forward to the race itself. I know Goodyear has a brand new tire for here. Tony (Stewart) tested it and I am pretty confident when he tests a tire that it's going to be a good one. It's an important race for us, obviously, but it's a great race track, different time of year. Hopefully the fans come out and check it out and we'll have a good day."

HOW CONFIDENT ARE YOU THAT YOU WILL BE LOCKED INTO THE CHASE AND IF NOT, WHAT IS YOUR STRATEGY FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS?: "I'm confident with our teams and I'm confident with our abilities, but I just don't know racing-wise if something crazy is going to happen in front of us or whatever. I'm fully capable of running out of talent, I've done it before. It's just a matter of -- you get these two good races in, two top-10 finishes answers everything and we can't lose there. I'm assuming when you say 'locked in,' you mean making the Chase and not being locked in this weekend because that would be a really tough task. I think that we're fully capable and I think this is a good place for us to show it. I really look forward to Richmond. We were really strong there in the spring. This place here is a really fast race track that usually ends up with 11 to 16 cars on the lead lap so if we're a part of that group then we'll be in good shape."

HOW WILL A MORE DIVERSE GROUP OF DRIVERS IN THE CHASE CHANGE IT THIS YEAR?: "It doesn't change anything, you're still racing 42 other guys on a given weekend to try to get those points. No matter who is in the Chase, you're still racing those other guys and that to me makes more of a difference than who's the other group of 11 that you're competing against."

IS THIS RACE A SNAPSHOT OF WHO MIGHT DO WELL IN THE CHASE AND WHO BELONGS IN THE CHASE BECAUSE OF THE TYPE OF TRACK THAT IT IS?: "I don't think so really, I think this is like any other race track where if you've got 12 Chase contenders then you're going to see eight of them at least in the top-10. I would say if you look back at every other race before that -- it's just the way the numbers work out. I don't think that this is a 'prove-all' for any type of season or weekend or race in reference to a championship contender. Obviously, we've got some correlation with Indy and Daytona and places like that, but I just think this is a good race track. We'll all go out and run the wheels off the cars."
