KEVIN HARVICK, NO. 29 SHELL-PENNZOIL IMPALA SS met with media and discussed the Sam Ard presentation, qualifying at Atlanta, Jimmie Johnson running for the title, and more.

TALK ABOUT THE SAM ARD PRESENTATION YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE TOMORROW: "Well you know, there are a lot of people that have meant a lot to the sport and I think a lot of those guys have kind of been forgotten and Sam has had some trouble. It's just amazing that the help from everybody in this whole community has come together. So it's going to be great to hopefully get him back on his feet and have him have nothing to worry about for a while."

IF WE QUALIFY TONIGHT, IT COULD BE 38 DEGREES; AND IF YOU RACE ON SUNDAY IT MIGHT BE 70. DO THE TEMPERATURE FLUCTUATIONS MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE TO YOU? "Well at this particular race track, obviously the speeds pick up the cooler it gets. Qualifying is always just a little bit edgy here because it's so fast. But it's just kinda one of those deals where you just roll with it and luckily we probably won't do much before the race today and tomorrow we'll have good practices."

ARE YOU ANXIOUS TO SEE HOW THE NEW TIRE RESPONDS HERE? "I don't build tires."

WHO IS THE BEST RACER WHO HAS NOT WON A CHAMPIONSHIP IS OUT THERE RIGHT NOW? "Oh, that's a good question. I think everybody I this garage has accomplished a lot in their racing careers, so that's hard to tell. I think there's a lot of them."

WHAT HAS TO HAPPEN, IN YOUR MIND, FOR THE JIMMIE JOHNSON NOT TO WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP RIGHT NOW? "Him not show up (laughs); wrong track, wrong time. Those guys have just been amazing the last couple of years as to where they've been really successful every week; week in or week out. As you get toward the end of this Chase, they're just going to make it happen and everybody else hasn't done a good job of that, and they have."

ON THE LAST 1.5 MILE TRACK, YOU RAN A DIFFERENT CHASSIS AND DESIGN. ARE YOU EXPERIMENTING FOR NEXT YEAR OR DO YOU STILL HAVE SOMETHING YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH THIS YEAR? "Charlotte is a little bit different for us just for the fact that it seems like we swing for the fence there. It's probably my worst race track, for sure. We ran okay there and just tried something different. We tried to see if we could hit on something. It felt like we had an okay test there but we just ran mediocre at Charlotte."

DO YOU HAVE THINGS YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH FOR THIS YEAR OR ARE YOU WORKING ON NEXT YEAR? "I don't think that evolution really ever stops. As you go from week to week you're still trying to find something that's working better and better. You can always go back to that package, but it seems like it's a constant evolution."
