"The lap felt great. I'm baffled by my time. I know what I felt here in the spring, I know what I felt today and I know what this track is capable of. I just didn't' get it. I don't know what to say. I just hope this car races better than in qualifies. It is a different car from what we had in the spring. We only had it out a couple times this year. I think we'll still have a decent starting spot but not what we're expected of here at Atlanta."
ON THE QUALIFYING RECORD "I don't focus on it but I'm aware of it and I'd like to beat it. That is what records are made for. It is disappointing from that respect but it's disappointing from the fact that we didn't get the pole regardless of any kind of record."
ELLIOTT SADLER (No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger)
"The car drove awesome. My guys did a good job. My Charger drove good and it was in the race track. I really thought I ran faster than that. I usually qualify good here but I've been a little off today. So I just have to work on my line a little bit tomorrow and should be good for Sunday. The guys brought me a new body and I know Kasey [Kahne] is real happy with his car too. He should be close to the top when he finishes his lap.
ON TEAM PROGRESS "That is our main goal to make our team better each and every week. They're doing that. They are definitely pulling their load. They have changed a million things this year and worked their guts out. We're definitely getting better and we should be in good shape Sunday."
Juan montoya (No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge Charger)
"The lap was pretty good. The track had to slow down. It is a bit of a shame because only the first few cars really picked up a lot of lap time and everybody else didn't. I think we'll be OK. I think we have a good race car and we'll see what happens."
DAVID STREMME (No. 40 Coors Light/St. Jude Dodge Charger)
"It was pretty good. I could have been a little better in three and four. It's a new body on the car. They've done a good job. We didn't start out the day like we wanted to. I think it will be pretty good. We ran good here in the spring and we just have to make sure we get it right tomorrow for Sunday.
"My worry is it's going to be a little too tight in race trim. But that's not a bad thing at Atlanta. This is a fast place and that is why we brought this car here. I'm proud of all the guys and what they've done."
KASEY KAHNE (No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger)
WAS THE LAP GOOD ENOUGH? "It was a good lap. The car felt good. It's a fast race car. It's a lot faster than what I've had in awhile. I feel pretty good about this weekend. Having a good practice tomorrow and being ready to go Sunday, it's going to be a fun race Sunday."
ANY DISAPPOINTMENT IN NOT GETTING THE POLE? "I would have loved to get it. We picked up a little bit. We didn't pick up as much as some of other guys but we went so fast in practice it was harder to pick up as much. I would have liked to get it, everything felt similar though and other people felt there was more grip and we already had a lot of grip."
CAN YOU SPECULATE ON TEXAS? "I just want to see how this weekend goes. If we run good this week then we'll run good next week. It's been our story, when we run good on these tracks we run good at all of them and we haven't run that great yet this year. I think if we can do it this weekend and figure some things out we'll be real good next week."
BOBBY LABONTE (No. 43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge Charger)
IS A TOP TEN GOOD TONIGHT? "No. No not at all. That wasn't very good at all. We just didn't have any grip to the car tonight; just couldn't go as fast as we needed to go."
SCOTT RIGGS (No. 10 Sears Auto Center/Valvoline/Stanley Tools Dodge Charger)
YOU JUST FOUND OUT YOU ARE IN THE FIELD; ARE YOU RELIEVED? "Well, yea I am glad we are in the show. It's a little confusing cause we felt like we picked up a lot on the way the car drove from practice to qualifying and I felt like I used a lot more throttle there in qualifying. Really had nothing to complain about; the car really turned good off in the corner, carried a lot of speed into the corner. When I did put the wheel into it, it went right to the bottom and I went right back to the gas quick. I don't know if set up wise we're just producing a lot of drag or something on our car or what. Some where we just don't have any speed. Balance wise were are good, that's good for a racecar in the race, just thought we really had a shot at being a top five car and didn't do it tonight."
SAM HORNISH (No. 06 Mobile 1 Dodge Charger)
IS THIS ANOTHER FRUSTRATING NIGHT? "Yea, a little bit. We have an oil leak and we're not sure where it came from. I am sure it didn't help us too much.
COULD YOU FEEL OIL ON YOUR TIRES? "It was really slick out there. So, I felt that. The track should have picked up with cooling down and it was really slick so we felt something not quite right. There was a little smoke in the car so something was giving up there."
