DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 24, 2003) -- Bill Elliott will close out an impressive month of October in good fashion by being honored in the NASCAR Victory Lap tribute prior to Sunday's Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

The program, honoring outgoing series sponsor R.J. Reynolds and past NASCAR Winston Cup Series champions, is making its sixth stop of the season. During pre-race ceremonies, Elliott, from Dawsonville, Ga., will take "victory laps" in his No. 9 Dodge Dealers/Victory Lap Dodge.

Elliott is on a roll this month, with two top-five finishes, including a second-place finish at Kansas Speedway and a fourth-place finish at Lowe's Motor Speedway, and has settled into the NASCAR Top 10 for the first time this season.

Elliott, who has competed in NASCAR since 1976, was NASCAR Winston Cup champion in 1988. He has 43 career victories to his credit, including five at Atlanta Motor Speedway, just a short drive from his hometown.
