Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Aflac Ford Fusion, posted the fastest lap in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series happy hour Saturday afternoon. Edwards spoke about what he expects in Sunday's race after getting out of the car.
"It's good. The Aflac Fusion is fast. It's gonna be a fun race. We got the car driving pretty well there, but it's still a pretty slippery race track. It's gonna be pretty fun and a good race." YOU LIKE A SLICK TRACK. "Yeah, I love that as long as I don't wreck."
A LOT OF GUYS MAY BE CONCERNED ABOUT TIRES, BUT YOU SEEM TO HAVE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE. WILL THAT HELP? "It's easy to have a positive attitude when you're fast. If I'm running 25th out there I might think differently, but right now I do have a real good outlook on it. I'm hopeful that it's gonna be a fun race. So far, I've been really fortunate, every race we've had here we've been fast and had a good time and, really, it doesn't matter to me what the tires were like as long as we all have the same tires."
HOW WERE YOUR TIRES ON THE LONG RUN? "They're pretty tricky, but I'd say it's about the same as a year ago. They're not much different."
SO YOU WEREN'T SLIPPING AND SLIDING LIKE OTHER GUYS IN PRACTICE? "I was slipping and sliding quite a bit, but at least it's controllable. It's not like you slip a little bit and you wreck it. You can drive this thing around all sorts of sideways right now and still keep control."
SO YOU CAN KEEP CONTROL EASY? "None of it's easy, but, to me, this is better than racing at a place like Charlotte, where everything is so locked down and you can't move around at all. This is way safer than that."
