"Edwards is forecasting a hot, sunny Sunday in Atlanta"
CONCORD, N.C. (March 13, 2006) - As race fans travel to Atlanta this weekend, they will first look at the weather forecast. The weather in Atlanta has varied over the years from hot and sunny to cold, cloudy and windy. Predicting the weather for Atlanta is much like picking between heads or tails on a coin flip. This Friday morning Carl Edwards hopes he can predict a picture perfect weekend. With thermometer in hand, Edwards will make his first appearance on "Your Weather Today," the Weather Channel's morning show this Friday, March 17.
Edwards has quite the reputation to defend this weekend at the Golden Corral 500. Edwards swept both Nextel Cup races in 2005 and he is looking forward to being back on the 1.54 mile track where in five starts, he has never finished outside the top 10. Edwards hopes for the same success when it comes to predicting the weather. This Friday, he will take his first shot at being a meteorologist on the Weather Channel.
"We are looking forward to having Carl as a part of our show on Friday. Carl will join our morning crew of Marshall Seese, Heather Tesch and Nicole Mitchell to present the weekend forecast, current conditions, and the Atlanta weekend outlook. We are excited to have Carl discuss how the weather affects the setup of race cars, racing conditions and overall performance," said executive producer, Mike McMackin.
Needless to say, the Atlanta weekend has been circled on Edwards' calendar, but not just for the racing.
"Being a part of the Weather Channel will be a blast," said Edwards. "I watch the Weather Channel quite a bit and I am really excited they invited me to be a part of the show. Everyone at the Weather Channel that I have talked to before have been really cool and I just hope the fans enjoy it."
Join Edwards Friday morning at 7:30 a.m. when he makes his first foray as a meteorologist. Following Friday's appearance on the Weather Channel, Edwards hopes to make it three Cup wins in a row this Sunday at the Golden Corral 500.
