RIGGS READY FOR ANOTHER SHOT AT ALL-STAR EVENT

CONCORD, N.C. (May 17, 2005)--Scott Riggs will head to Lowe's Motor Speedway this weekend to pilot the No. 10 Valvoline Chevrolet in the NEXTEL Open, vying for one of the remaining spots in the main feature -- the non-points NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge.

Riggs' rookie trip to the celebrated event ended on the first lap after the transmission in Casey Mears' race machine broke, resulting in an eleven car pile-up and the end of the night for the Valvoline race team.

"Our trip to last year's all-star weekend ended too early," commented Riggs. "We had a good car for the (Nextel All-Star) Open but never got the shot to prove it. Hopefully this year we'll be able to stick around longer and see what the Valvoline Chevy can do."

Saturday night's NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge is mainly for race winners from the previous and current seasons. However, it will also include the winner of the NEXTEL Open, a preliminary race for teams that have not qualified for the premiere event.

"Unfortunately, we haven't won a race yet to guarantee us a spot in the All-Star Challenge," said Riggs. "We know we've got a win coming, but it just hasn't come soon enough. This is our only shot at getting in, so hopefully we'll do well Saturday night and win our way into the big event."

Lowe's Motor Speedway will be home to NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series teams the next two weeks. The Coca-Cola 600, another highly anticipated-event, will take place the weekend after the all-star races (May 29).

"The more seat time we get in during All-Star weekend, the better off we'll be during the Coca-Cola 600 activities," Riggs continued. "We had an outstanding car for that event last year also, so these next two weeks could be exciting for the Valvoline team.

"Maybe we can go ahead a secure a place in next season's all-star weekend by picking up a win in Charlotte."
